Van Zandt County Officials are hosting a town hall meeting Monday, February 3, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. in Edom to discuss the County's plans for purchasing, renovating, and re-locating the county offices to a new building located on Highway 19 near McDonald's in Canton. Officials will also be discussing their plans for a bond election to build a new jail.

County Judge Andy Reese and the County Commissioners, led by Pct. 4 Commissioner Brandon Barton, have already entered into a contract to purchase the Paul Michael Company building in Canton for approximately $4 million dollars. In commissioner court meetings, officials have revealed their desire and plans to relocate county offices out of the County Courthouse and Courthouse Annex and into the Paul Michael Building. The re-location will occur after the building is renovated to suit the needs of each county office and the public. The dilapidated state of the courthouse, the high cost to repair it, and the need to expand and prepare for future growth have been the main motivations for the purchase discussed in the commissioner court meetings.

Officials will also be discussing their plans to conduct a bond election to build a new jail. The public is invited to attend, ask questions, and get more information on these planned projects.

The Town Hall Meeting will be held at Edom City Limits Dance Hall located on FM 279 in Edom at 6:30 p.m.
